With the title 'Cuba Screen: Films to Change the World,' several motion pictures from the Caribbean island will be screened in this capital from March 9 to 22, the official website of the event reported.

  • The exhibition is a project sponsored by the Music Found for Cuba charity organization, the solidarity campaign with the Caribbean nation in the United Kingdom, the Cuban Embassy here and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).

For two weeks, Screen Cuba will present motion pictures by renowned Cuban filmmakers and young talents, from the 1960s to the present, at the Garden Cinema in downtown London.

It will also screen films that were made by foreign moviemakers in the Caribbean nation and that present Cuban culture in an inspiring way.

According to the festival’s information, the panel discussions will be attended by Tania Delgado Fernandez, director of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, and ICAIC Vice President Gladys Gonzalez, who will enrich the exchange of ideas with the audience at the presentations.

The event will become a platform in London to showcase a selection of award-winning Cuban films and another way to overcome the distribution obstacles caused by the United States blockade against Cuba, the Cuba Screen website explains.

The press release indicates that the funds raised by the Festival with these presentations will be used to develop ICAIC’s ongoing projects such as the restoration and digitalization of Cuban classical films.
