Apparatus is the title of the new creation by the National Ballet of Cuba that will be presented to the public on 28th January in the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre of Cuba as part of the closing ceremony of the 39th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival 2024.

The event, which will take place from 21 to 28th January in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, will pay tribute to the company, directed by Viengsay Valdés, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, according to Mauricio Abreu, head of press and publicity for the dance company.

«Historically, the National Ballet of Cuba has collaborated with Cuban composers and choreographers, whose works have become part of our company’s repertoire. Roberto Fonseca was kind enough to create a piece on which Raúl Reinoso worked with our dancers. The result can be seen at the end of this event, which pays tribute to us and in which we are honoured to take part,» said Viengsay Valdés.

According to Raúl Reinoso, a choreographer and dancer with Acosta Danza, «Apparatus is a work in progress that aims to go beyond the stage performance and delve into the personal and subjective dimension of the dancers. It serves as the driving force behind the movements and aesthetics that are inherent in the individual who participates in the creative process. The piece invites the audience to interact with and get to know the performers on a more intimate level, including their peculiarities, beliefs, and preferences, as fellow human beings.»
