Dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association and the 60th anniversary of “Words to Intellectuals” and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the Rubén Martínez Villena National Cultural Journalism Workshop and Contest is consolidated as one of the spaces for socialization on the experiences and professional practices related to Cultural Journalism carried out by young people from the country's journalistic union.
This time, virtually, the workshop materializes on the interview, in charge of the Journalism Prize winner Juan Gualberto Gómez and Honorary Member of the AHS, José Luis Estrada, who stands out for his interviews accurate to several Cuban artists and intellectuals.
The international meeting "Journalists in resistance", coordinated by the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) and the Cuban Chapter of the Network of Intellectuals in Defense of Humanity is another of the spaces for debate that as part of the activities of the day for the Cuban Press Day and the Rubén Martínez Villena Workshop and Contest proposes exchanges with renowned figures from the national press and from Latin American countries.
The forum “Cultural journalism 2.0: Between challenges and certainties”, another of the event's proposals, reflects on the dynamics of cultural journalism on digital platforms and the use of hypermedia grammar, as well as the relevance of the exercise of criticism in digital sites, social networks and other spaces.
One of the "Villena" days will also be dedicated to the challenges of the radio in times of Covid-19; space that will be in charge of the young journalist from Spiritus and Doctor of Science, Lisandra Gómez Guerra.
Likewise, when practicing Cultural Journalism from the audiovisual point of view, the prominent journalist Yuris Nórido will share his criteria and experiences in this regard.
Carried out for the first time in a virtual way and sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association, this time in the contest more than 200 works by young journalists from all over the country compete in Written Press, Radio, Television and Hypermedia Journalism, which are evaluated by a prestigious jury, which must award a prize in each category and as many mentions as it deems pertinent, as reported to the press by Yasel Toledo Garnache, national vice president of the AHS.
He said that precisely on the 13th, the date of the 64th anniversary of the assault on the Presidential Palace, the Doctor in Historical Sciences Eduardo Torres Cuevas, President of the José Martí Cultural Society and of the Office of the Martiano Program, will comment on that event and the book De la letter to the assault, in the process of editing.
Winner of various journalistic awards, he assured that the winners will be announced on the 14th, Cuban Press Day, on digital platforms and informational spaces of traditional media.
He added that this event always aspires to be a space to socialize the best works and professional experiences related to cultural journalism, and to share among young people and people with more experience from the love of journalism and Cuba.
The Rubén Martínez Villena Cultural Journalism Workshop and Contest usually meets at the Cuba Pavilion, national headquarters of the AHS, and includes exchanges between professionals of various generations. (AHS web portal)
